Campbell Trial Lawyers are highly skilled trial attorneys whose technical expertise in the sciences, medicine, engineering and business enables them to unravel the most intricate claims and present your case clearly, concisely and successfully.

We are proud to point out that a number of Campbell Trial Lawyers have been recognized nationally and internationally by their peers for their dedication to clients, winning strategies, and the highest professional and ethical standards. Three of our shareholders are elected Fellows of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, which admits no more than 1% of total attorneys in each state. This gives Campbell Trial Lawyers one of the highest concentrations of top-tier trial attorneys of any firm in the country. When Corporate Counsel magazine surveyed the Fortune 100 about which firms they use for torts litigation, Campbell Trial Lawyers tied for first place for the most number of mentions. This places the firm at the top of the list of "Litigation Kings" when the largest corporations in America look for go-to trial lawyers to handle high-stakes, complex torts litigation. Our attorneys were the first outside counsel to be invited to participate on the Executive Committee of the Product Liability Advisory Council, an influential industry association whose members represent a broad cross-section of product manufacturers. Our attorneys are very well connected throughout the profession and give back by holding leadership positions in many of these bodies that serve to advance trial practice. Many of them hold or have held leadership positions in local, national and international organizations dedicated to legal education or the advancement of the legal profession, including the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Defense Research Institute, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Massachusetts Defense Lawyers Association among others. We congratulate Richard Campbell, our Founder, on his election as President of the Massachusetts Bar Association for the 2011-2012 term, and Jim Campbell on completion of his term as President of the International Association of Defense Counsel.

Diversity
We are committed to the hiring and advancement of a diverse workforce. As a firm that not only represents a wide array of national and international businesses, but also tries cases before juries that reflect a wide range of social, economic, cultural and personal backgrounds, we fully recognize that diversity is essential to success.

Behind the Scenes
Every attorney is supported by an assistant with extensive litigation support experience to ensure efficient handling of your matters and each one is dedicated to providing the highest quality work on your case. The Campbell Trial Lawyers team of paralegals is diligent in their pursuit of critical information, exacting in their attention to detail, and adept at organizing even the most complicated research. Our IT staff provides 24-hour back-up and support and ensures we use the most effective tools available for better case management and communication with clients. We are proud of our staff and recognize the important role they play in delivering results for our clients.

Firm History
Founded in 1983 by Richard P. Campbell, the firm built its reputation on automotive product liability cases and has since broadened the practice to include all types of civil litigation, commercial litigation, intellectual property, employment and professional liability litigation in a wide variety of industries. The firm moved from its early offices in Cambridge, MA, and is now headquartered in Boston, with offices throughout New England and the mid-Atlantic. Our reach is truly national – we have tried cases in 34 states and act as regional or national coordinating counsel for a number of Fortune 500 companies. We encourage you to explore our site to learn more about our people, our expertise and our clients.

Our Approach

When you’re faced with an impending trial, it’s good to know someone’s got your back. The depth of our courtroom experience allows us to work each case with the entrenched efficiencies that come from decades of successful trial work and combine those with the attention to detail, intense preparation and dogged persistence that wins cases.

As our client, you will work closely with the senior trial lawyer in charge of your case and will have access to that lawyer at all times. When appropriate, associates and paralegals will perform the work to avoid higher costs. Our associates bring the same passion and dedication to each case as our most senior trial lawyers.

We are committed to the successful resolution of every case; however, not every case belongs in court. We are counselors as well as advocates: throughout the course of our representation, we advise and counsel clients about the relative risks, costs and benefits of continued litigation rather than settlement. Sometimes, mediation is the better course of action. For those clients interested in finding resolution short of trial, the very credible threat that Campbell Trial Lawyers presents is often enough to settle even difficult cases to the clear advantage of our clients.

When to Call
Trials are unpredictable and timetables nearly impossible to nail down. Sometimes you may not know you need us until the last minute – that’s ok. Clients have called us to step in at all stages of a trial, and while it’s more efficient to take advantage of our talents at the beginning, we can successfully take over at any point in the process. For example, when Camp Robin Hood called on us just before trial was set the begin and previous counsel left us with no experts and very little useful material, we rolled up our sleeves and delved into the facts to produce credible evidence in support of our client and presented it to the jury in a way that left no doubt but to rule in favor of the camp.

If necessary, we can work seamlessly with your existing outside counsel who may require the depth of hands-on trial experience found only at Campbell Trial Lawyers.

Our substantial appellate practice handles cases previously handled by other lawyers in the firm or as special appellate counsel in cases handled by other firms. Campbell Trial Lawyers have won significant victories on appeal either upholding verdicts in our clients’ favor or reversing adverse rulings.

Giving Back

Campbell Trial Lawyers has a strong record of public service. We are committed in our service to the Bar and are leaders and active participants in many bar associations and committees. We congratulate Richard Campbell, our Founder, on his election as President of the Massachusetts Bar Association for 2011-2012, as well as the many other members of the firm who are officers of various professional and civic associations.

Social Host Liability
Spearheaded by the firm’s founder, our lawyers regularly speak to parents, educators, students and civic groups about substance abuse by underage consumers through a proprietary program called Social Host Liability. We feel strongly that everyone should know about the legal ramifications, for adults and students alike, of furnishing alcohol at underage drinking parties. The potentially devastating consequences of careless action (and even inaction) can have a huge impact on many lives and our goal is not only to increase awareness, but to do our part to prevent future tragedies.

Again this year, our attorneys and staff have formed a team in support of Lawyers Have Heart to raise money for the American Heart Association. This year’s team members include Sarah Ashby, Elizabeth Burt, Amy Campbell, Lauren Campbell, Meredith King, Carla Latson, Jean Matthews, Betsy McIntyre, Alicia Messina, Marva Majumder, Christopher Parkerson, Michael Quinlan, Michael Ryan, Courtney Thomas, and Owen Williams.

We are also proud of the individual commitments made by many of our attorneys:

Brandon Arber, Eric Apjohn and Chris Howe of our Boston office were involved in a 7-week-long program called Discovering Justice sponsored by the Boston Bar Association through which inner city youth can learn about our legal system. As part of the James D. St. Clair Court Education program, Mark Hoover serves as a Docent at the U.S. Federal Court where he enjoys teaching schoolchildren about the workings of the Court system.

Cortney Merrill provides pro bono legal assistance for a local charitable organization that assists children to overcome life-threatening challenges, including the trauma of violence, illness and extreme poverty.
