Biography

Kathleen M. Guilfoyle is a shareholder in the Boston office of the trial law firm of Campbell Campbell Edwards & Conroy. In 1981 she graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a B.A. in History. In 1985 she earned her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law.

Ms. Guilfoyle is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island and the federal courts of Vermont.

Ms. Guilfoyle focuses her litigation practice on aviation defense and represents several airlines, airport authorities and ground handling companies in cases pending throughout the state and federal courts of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. This litigation includes the defense of claims involving personal injury, premises liability, the Air Carrier Access Act, discrimination and general commercial litigation. Currently, she and her firm are representing one of the noncarrier airlines in the litigation pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York arising out of the terrorist attacks of September 11th. In this litigation, she also worked on responding to requests for information from the Kean Commission, and she participated in non-public witness interviews of various airline personnel by Kean Commission staffers. She also handles products liability cases for various automotive and commercial trucking manufacturers, as well as the defense of various environmental claims for fuel suppliers.

Ms. Guilfoyle is on the Board of Directors of the International Aviation Women's Association (IAWA) and serves as Vice President, Annual Conference. She is the Vice Chair of The Harmonie Group's Aviation Practice Committee. She also serves on the Membership Committee and the Jury Service Task Force of the Defense Research Institute. Ms. Guilfoyle is a member of the American, Boston and Massachusetts Bar Associations, the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) and the Massachusetts Defense Lawyers' Association.

Ms. Guilfoyle has written articles titled "Alleged Improper Handling of In-Flight Medical Emergencies: A Cognizable Claim under the Warsaw Convention?" and "Asserting Claims for Sexual Assault under the Warsaw Convention." She is also a frequent presenter at programs sponsored by professional organizations. She discussed the Victim's Compensation Fund and the initial stages of the September 11th Litigation at the IAWA Conference in Lisbon, Portugal. She spoke about the impact of the Kean Commission Report and the closure of the Victim's Compensation Fund on the litigation at the IAWA Conference in San Francisco, California. She gave tips for effective mediation at the Women Drive Results in Transportation program sponsored by the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association. Most recently she spoke about legal issues that affect fixed base operators at the Independent Fixed Base Operators Association's Regional Aviation Trade Show. Ms. Guilfoyle also regularly serves on the faculty of the Massachusetts Bar Association's civil litigation seminars.
